Belgrano – Buenos Aires Neighbourhoods – Information and lodging
One of the most beautiful of Buenos Aires neighborhoods, Belgrano is famous for its large houses, tree lined streets and modern buildings-once you get past Avenue Cabildo, full of life from morning til late at night and full of stores, cinemas and restaurants, reminiscent of a large strip mall. Inside the neighborhood you will find pubs, museums, plazas, trees and good restaurants.
The Italianate Church of the Immaculate Conception, known as “La Redonda” for its dome, has an interesting classical Greco Roman style; its rectory is an old colonial house. Surrounding it is the Plaza Belgrano, a major outdoor market .
Nearby is the Museo Larreta, housing the art collection of the famous Argentine novelist who wrote La Gloria de Don Ramiro and the Museo Historico Sarmiento. If you walk down to the Barracas de Belgrano you will find a hilly park where seniors play chess and young people skate. Across the street from the Church on Juramento there is a tiny Chinatown, with a restaurant at 2100 Arribeños.
